ACTIVISION, BO4, ETC...

Call of Duty, one of my favorite franchises. Throughout the years activison has been delivering good titles. My personal favorites, were WAW, BO1 and BO2. Unfortunately the quality of the games has been dropping through the last 5 years, which makes me believe that COD is entering the red ring of death.



Let's analyze the timeline:

From call of duty to call of duty 3 we see a similar type of game, yet a successful one. The games are set in world war 2, the plot is interesting, the graphics keep getting better.



2007

Here we have something different. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is released. Unlike its predecessors cod4 is not set in ww2, but in a nearby future (2011). It was a different setting, but it still had success. People liked COD4, it was relatable ( which is something I'll later talk about later).



2008

COD WAW.

Treyarch brings us back to the ww2 setting. This time, after we finish the campaign we get a special survival mode: NAZI ZOMBIES. In this mode the player fights never ending waves of undead soldiers. It was refreshing and a success.



2009

2010

COD Black Ops

Once again, Treyarch brings another title. Here, the campaign is set in 1961 and told by Alex Mason's flashbacks. Here we also have the comeback of a character from WAW, Viktor Reznov. Treyarch kept the zombies mode, developing the background story. Personally, this cod had the best online multiplayer mechanics.



2011

COD MW3

Infinity ward brings us one of the most loved titles of the franchise. The multiplayer was also really good.



2012

COD BO2

Treyarch releases what is considered by lots of people the last good call of duty, Once again, the plot is set on a nearby future, where some parts of the campaign take place on some decades after the ending of bo1. The zombies mode is kept on, its storyline keeps getting bigger.



2013

COD Ghosts.

Now, this is the year that lots of cod players consider the year when activision fucked up. Infinity Ward had put lots of hope and excitement onto their fans, promising them a different game in the age of console transition instead of playing it safe and making cod mw4. So, this game has a totally different new setting , which doesn't feel like call of duty at all, the so called innovations are stupid jumps, a dog called riley, and fish that move when you approach them ( mario 64 already had that type of tech but okay...). The universe is an alternative one where there's a nuclear explosion in the middle east.



2014

COD  advanced warfare

Here sledge hammer worked to bring another game that wasn't that much of an innovation. Basically we are in 2054 in some sort of futuristic korea war, exo stuff and flying jumps. Besides this campaign we have another modes like multiplayer, exo survival, exo zombies (don't even get me started on this one, it was just hilarious to see how much sledge hammer wanted to attract players by using a zombies mode that is similar to treyarch's).



2015

COD B03

Treyarch keeps the BO series releasing BO3 this time. FUTUREEEEE. The game is set between 2065 and 2070. Microtransactions and crazy retarded jumps that make no sense. Zombies are good, but in my opinion they're too focused on easter eggs and not on the surviving side of the mode.

2016
Infinite Warfare

PROBLEM SOLVED, HAND US YOUR MOM'S CREDIT CARD AND WE WILL TURN YOU INTO A STAR! OOOOOH ALL MIGHTY GOD YOU'RE SO TALENTED!!! TALENTED AT GIVING US YOUR MONEYYYYY!!!!

2017
COD ww2
Welp, I was expecting more from sledge hammer. They made a huge ass fuss with the promotion, it looked like " what we all have been waiting for since ghosts" turns out it's not a big deal. Basically they simply took advantage of how desperate most cod players were, trying to buy us with a nostalgia factor (ex: boots on the ground, nazi zombies ). I have accompanied the developing of ww2 since early 2017 , even before the " people's army" rumors. This game had a nice foundation I guess. The thing is lots of factors destroyed it: micro transactions, feminism, lack of consideration for the fans.

2018
COD BO4
 still waiting for the official trailer in may, but tbh I think it'll suck. I think this the actual end of good cod games, what a shame, but oh well, all good things must end one day. I have a strange feeling nothing good will ever come again from the franchise.


Now, I will focus on what (in my opinion of course ) are the reasons why call of duty is coming to some sort of end.

FUTUREEEE
So, as most people can see we have been having futuristic call of duties over the last 3 years. Last year's call of duty was set in ww2 but that leads me to other conclusion. For the most part of the time, call of duty was either set in the past or in a nearby future, and that plays an important role, the fact that it was relatable, the players could minimally understand and relate to what was happening, what weapons were being used. This doesn't mean futuristic video games are bad, it just means that futuristic shit doesn't fit the concept of call of duty. People come and play call of duty for a certain type of game. When it changes completely, most probably will hate it. Call of duty were games that had a certain formula and besides the subtle changes, the game used to stick to it. What I am trying to say is that people buy call of duty for call of duty, not for some sort of halo.

THE NOSTALGIA FACTOR
I know I just complained about call of duty being all futuristic and stuff, and now I will complain about the ww2 factor. Since 2014 , cods have been set on the future, and in my opinion it is quite interesting that right after the release of infinite warfare, we get a call of duty called ww2. From my point of view, sledge hammer understood right away from advanced warfare that the audience would get tired of the future really quickly, so they decided to bring "what the players want" in order to get more buyers. And that's literally what they did, a game that was basically all the things players missed together. They used the nostalgia factor just to get more players and buyers.

MICROTRANSACTIONS
DLCS are minimally acceptable. But supply drops? That's just pure ridiculousness. I miss the good old black ops days when playing online multiplayer meant skill and not having parents that are okay with their kids spending shit tons of money on fucking imaginary guns. Besides that, all the loot box business has an important technique behind. This stupid thing takes advantage of how the human brain and addiction work. There are several studies about this , how to the brain gets more addicted to things it is not really certain about.

SJWS AND FEMINISM
How many black nazi women have you ever heard of? 0? Oh yeah that's because there never were any of those. Because of stupid offended dikes, it is possible to play as a black woman that happens to be on the german side of the battle. I like it when games are historically accurate. In the past I am pretty sure that no black women got to set their feet on the Wehrmacht!! Sledge hammer always goes like " we want to make sure everyone feels like it was them there" but I am pretty sure you wouldn't really be there in case you're black and a woman. I'm just so fucking tired of everyone getting offended. All the snowflakes fucking video games just because they can't handle the truth.

STUPID CENSORSHIP
I am also pretty sure that everyone recognizes the swastika as a nazi symbol even though it is Hindu. It was heavily used by the party so, in my opinion, it should be showcased in the games as well. Thing is, because of germany, we can't do such thing, due to their fucking censorship policy that sucks so god damn much!!! They thing that by making swastikas forbidden ( in video games, because video games are not considered a form of art ) they're gonna stop the growth of the amount of national socialists.  What sucks is a game that is not historically accurate because of bullcrap.
